Could your embroidery business be at risk because of copyright or trademark infringement?

In this episode of the Embroidery Profit Podcast, Hope Yoder breaks down what embroidery business owners need to understand before selling designs, apparel, patches, engraved products, DTF transfers, or other custom items that include brand names, logos, characters, sports teams, college names, military marks, or celebrity likenesses.

Many makers see Disney, NFL, college, Nike, Marvel, Star Wars, or other recognizable designs for sale online and assume it is allowed. But seeing a product on Etsy, Facebook, or at a craft show does not confirm that the seller has permission or a valid license. This episode focuses on why small businesses need to protect themselves, research requests before accepting an order, and prioritize original designs or properly licensed artwork.

Hope shares practical examples from the embroidery and fabric-design industry, including personal-use designs built into certain embroidery machines, licensed sports fabric, client requests involving trademarked event names, the risks of selling copyrighted designs online, and ways to offer customers a safe alternative when you need to turn down a request.
